Summary: Echo Alkaev’s safe and carefully structured world falls apart when her father leaves for the city and mysteriously disappears. Believing he is lost forever, Echo is shocked to find him half-frozen in the winter forest six months later, guarded by a strange talking wolf―the same creature who attacked her as a child. The wolf presents Echo with an ultimatum: if she lives with him for one year, he will ensure her father makes it home safely. But there is more to the wolf than Echo realizes.

In his enchanted house beneath a mountain, each room must be sewn together to keep the home from unraveling, and something new and dark and strange lies behind every door. When centuries-old secrets unfold, Echo discovers a magical library full of books- turned-mirrors, and a young man named Hal who is trapped inside of them. As the year ticks by, the rooms begin to disappear and Echo must solve the mystery of the wolf’s enchantment before her time is up otherwise Echo, the wolf, and Hal will be lost forever.

my thoughtsPLOT: 4/5

When looking at the plot of the story you can most certainly see different books that inspired this tale. One of the mains I found thought the book was that of East of the Sun West of the moon. We can also see inspiration from books like Beauty and the Best and a few others. But this book was still something by itself. Even though I was able to pick up a similar plot feeling I was engrossed by the way the story played out and how the choices affected the characters.

Characters: 4/5

Within this story we are given several different characters. Echo, wolf, Hale, (one more). Each of these characters were different from the other. Echo is our main character who has to live a whole year with the wolf after striking a deal with the wolf one cold winter night. The wolf is more human than expected but also still a beast. From there you meet several different characters and see the growth in echo as she has to deal with thing from her past to make sure she still has a future.

FAVORITE ASPECT :

I really loved the role books played in this story without giving away anything that’s all your going to get from me.

NEGATIVE(S) :

For this story, there was only one thing that was a bit off for me. And that was just a bit confusing at the end. But that is partly my fault, I was reading to fast and needed to slow down to fully understand what was happening.

So, all in all, I really enjoyed this book and finished it in only a few days. The plot and characters were well written in my judgment. And the plot was familiar but yet all it’s own at once. So if you are someone looking for a good read, check this book out and let me know what you thought at the end.
