The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner

Hello, Book dragons!

I have missed you all, and it has been a long time since my last post. I have quite a few books to share with you that I have read and loved. Now before I go off on a treasure hunt, let’s dive right into our first review.

The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner

Summary:

The king’s scholar, the magus, believes he knows the site of an ancient treasure. To attain it for his king, he needs a skillful thief, and he selects Gen from the king’s prison. The magus is interested only in the thief’s abilities. What Gen is interested in is anyone’s guess. Their journey toward the treasure is both dangerous and difficult, lightened only imperceptibly by the tales they tell of the old gods and goddesses.

Length: 7 hours 41 minutes

First let me say I was not expecting to love this story as much as i did when i picked it up. I had heard people like PeruseProject talk about this series and how good it was. But I had never thought about reading it. But one day I was in a huge reading slump after reading strange the dreamer (review coming!) that I saw it on my libro.fm and deiced to give it a go. And it does not hurt that Steve West is the narrator either.

My Rating: 5/5 Stars

I rated this read 5/5 stars for several reasons.

Reason one: The writing was fantastic, I was transported to the world of The Queens Thief. It remained me of other stories i had read with a similar feel. (aka queens rising, the kiss of deception) The world was fully thought out but not confusing for someone to jump right into. There was not a huge info dump either, you got to learn the world and the characters at a rate that was just right.

Next was the character themselves. I adore Gen, his is such a character. His wit, and the attitude on that boy is one that I find highly amusing. I also really enjoyed the character relationships and how they developed and how deep the connections became as the book went on.

Lastly and this one is pure preference , I love the fact they had Steve West for this audio book. He is one of my favorite voice actors for audio book and he is perfect for Gen.

So all in all this book, and series is one of my favorites and i am currently reading book 4 and loving it just as much. I can not recommend this series enough.

But till the next post, I’ll see you later at the nook!
